There are many aspects of fractions that aren’t immediately intuitive. Common denominators are one of them. With this game, I’ve tried to make the steps you take to turn denominators into common denominators more visceral and engaging. Fractions are turned into 3D equivalents by dividing up sections into blocks that form the path the player has to cross.

How to Play

The goal of the game is to reach the plane at the end to escape the dragon before running out of hearts!

Player Movement

You can move around using WASD or the arrow keys. Up and down arrow keys will allow you to move forward and backwards. Left and right arrow keys allow you to pan the camera.

Blocks in a Section

To reach the plane at the end you will need to cross these platforms. Each platform section is made up of a bunch of blocks. The number you see next to the section is how many blocks can fit in that section. For example, below you can see the '4' for the section having spaces for 4 blocks. Some of the spaces may be empty!

Moving Blocks

If you run through a space missing a block, you will fall through and lose a heart. So you need to cover them up. This can be done by clicking and dragging a block from another section. Move the block to the section you want to place it in, and release the mouse to drop it.

However, to be able to move a block from one section to another, they both need to have equal number of spaces. Otherwise the size of the block will not match.

Changing the Number of Blocks

To change the number of blocks in a section, you can either multiply or divide the amount by another number. To do this, press the number floating next to that section. Each time you press it, you will see a floating orb show up. The total number of orbs is the amount the current number will get multiplied or divided by.

To multiply, click and drag the number up, once you've got the amount of orbs you want to multiply by. To divide, do the same as multiply, except you'll want to drag the number down instead of up.

You can repeat this process as many times as you like.
